Al-Azhar responsible for renewing the religious discourse in Egypt

House
of Deputies Member and the Director of the Middle East Center for Studies in
Paris, Dr Abdel Rahim Ali, said on Sunday that it is impossible to renew
the religious discourse without the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, stressing that
without Al-Azhar’s support the state cannot confront the extremists.
Speaking at a seminar in Dutch capital,
Amsterdam, on the way ahead for Egypt after the 8th anniversary of the January
25th revolution, Ali said that Al-Azhar is the Islamic religious authority
concerned with the renewal of religious discourse.
Ali was in Amsterdam at an invitation by the Supreme Council of
the Egyptian Community in Holland.
He spoke at the seminar about a wide range of issues, including
the terrorist threat on Europe, the conditions of the Copts in Egypt and also
the status of the Muslim Brotherhood in the country and outside it.
Representatives of a large number of Egyptian and Arab
institutions registered in Holland attended the seminar, side by side with a
host of Egyptian and Arab luminaries.
