AL chief lauds decision on holding conference on nuclear-weapon-free zone in ME

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit
lauded the passing of an Arab-proposed resolution by the Disarmament and
International Security (First Committee) of the UN General Assembly about
holding a conference in 2019 on setting up a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the
Middle East.
Passing the resolution has put an end to a state of
procrastination with regard to holding the conference, Abul Gheit said in press
statements.
The AL chief thanked states that voted for the draft
resolution, and urged those that voted against it or abstained from voting to
reconsider their stance before casting their votes again on the matter at the
UN General Assembly in the coming weeks.
