Egypt condemned in the strongest of terms on Monday the Iran-backed Houthi militias for attempting to attack the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with a missile that was successfully intercepted by the Kingdom’s defenses.

In a statement, the foreign ministry stressed that Cairo will continue to support and stand by Saudi Arabia and all measures it takes to defend its territories, safeguard its security and stability, protect its people and confront all forms of terrorism and its backers.

Jordan also slammed the Houthis for the attack.

A foreign ministry spokesman said Amman strongly condemns the militias for their continued targeting of civilian areas, reported the Petra news agency.

He expressed its rejection of this “cowardly terrorist attack and all forms of violence and terror” that aim to destabilize the region.

He underlined Jordan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia, saying it stands by it against everything that threatens its security and safety of its brotherly people.

It supports all measures it takes to protect its territories, stressing that the security of both kingdoms is indivisible.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition said on January 23 that it had thwarted an aerial attack by the Houthis towards Riyadh.

The Houthis were designated by the Trump administration this month as a foreign terrorist organization in a move welcomed by the legitimate Yemeni government.
