First: Contrary to some rumors circulating within the U.S. National Security Council, there is little disagreement about the need to put an end to the Iranian threat through a strike that would weaken the regime in Iran and end its ambitions to acquire nuclear weapons.
Second: The decision to launch the strike has, in fact, already been made. What President Trump is currently doing amounts to a form of strategic deception—similar to what he employed prior to Israel’s strike on Friday, June 13th—in order to achieve the element of surprise against the Iranian regime.
Third: From the very beginning—and I still maintain this view—I believe that Trump and the Israeli Prime Minister will not settle for merely curbing the Iranian nuclear threat. They will continue the campaign until the regime in Iran falls and a new government is established—one that will not attempt to produce nuclear weapons again.
Fourth: There are also three logistical factors that led to President Trump postponing the official announcement of his decision via a press conference:
The need to evacuate a number of American diplomats and their families from the region, as well as some stranded citizens.
Allowing more time for the U.S. military to prepare the operational theater and for the arrival of supplies, including aircraft carriers and specialized bombers, to the region with utmost precision and secrecy.
Developing plans to contain potential Iranian retaliation, especially regarding the Strait of Hormuz or mobilizing its regional proxies such as Hezbollah, the Houthis, or Shiite militias in Iraq.
Providing time for full coordination with America’s primary Western allies—particularly Britain and Germany—as well as Israel, to control any potential reactions and ensure a crippling blow to the Iranian regime that would remove it from power entirely or force it into the humiliating surrender that the U.S. President is intensely seeking.
